Maybe it's that I'm getting older, and maybe I'm  just getting more philosophical, but I realized recently that there are a couple of things that have been  threads throughout my life and that they really have a lot in common: knitting and jazz. My love for both date back to the early 1960s and a time when my mom, my brother and I lived with my grandparents.  I learned to knit when I was about four. The soundtrack of my life at that time was my grandparents' music, various forms of jazz, including The Great American Songbook. In this blog, I'll be talking about both. I hope that it leads you to discovering some new and interesting knowledge.

Why knitting and jazz together on the same page?  One Sunday morning when I was up early knitting with some Billy Strayhorn tunes playing in the background, I realized that the two are quite alike. First, deeply rooted in tradition, the basics are learned. Then, building skill upon skill until one can take off on tangents and improvisations, gaining the ability to make art. But mostly, they go together because of my love for them.

I am not an expert on knitting, nor am I an expert on jazz, but they mesmerize and mystify me. I cannot imagine my life without either, and with this heart, I will share with you my passion for both.

Have a cashmere kind of day!
